CASPER- We at the NIC feel that a person should never stop creating. To encourage our community to discover the benefits and joys of creating artwork we will feature a regional artist in our Artist of the Month program. Each month the Discovery Center will host an artist who will come to teach their craft and art technique to students ages 12 to adult. Artists’ media will vary from painting to sculpture to collage to photography and so much more. Each month brings a new artist. Please visit our website at http://www.thenic.org/calendar.htm at the beginning of each month to discover who will be our next artist of the month. Class sizes and costs will vary and every skill level is invited to attend. Contact Linda Lyman for more information at llyman@thenic.org or 235-5247.
Our Artist of the Month for the month of June is Michele McDonald. The class will be held on June 24th from 10-12. The cost for the class is $20 and all supplies will be provided. Students will discover the capabilities watercolors through creating their own work and watching demonstrations by the artist. Students will learn the basics of texture, brush work, and variegated washes. They will be using the technique of wet on wet to create a landscape and as time allows a still life. Attendees are invited to bring a photograph to use as a reference in their still-life. McDonald will have examples of her work for the class to view during the session as well as on display at the NIC throughout the month of June. Space is limited to 15 students so please register with Linda Lyman today by calling the NIC at 235-5247.
McDonald says of her work, “I create paintings with the luminosity of stained glass.” The intrinsic qualities of watercolor have always intrigued her as they have the ability to both reflect light as well as allow it to reach through the layers of pigment. McDonald was born and raised in Sheridan and spent many years on California studying with several noted California artists. She is a member of the Northwest Watercolor Society, Montana, Wyoming, and Northern Plains Watercolor Societies and the National Acrylic Painters Society. Her work is in many collections across the United States, Italy, Taiwan, Japan and the Netherlands.
