Lucy Fradkin
October 17-January 4, 2009
Brooklyn artist Lucy Fradkin is a self-taught painter who creates vibrant, dynamic full-length portraits of people and friends in a very distinctive colorful, decorative style. More than compelling beauty and eye-catching color, Fradkin gently and subtly inserts a keen social commentary into her portraits, as she looks at and analyzes how different people are perceived through typical visual clues, dress, race, and ethnicity. Her work is also influenced by early American folk art portrait styles, ancient frescos and mosaics from Italy and Greece, as well as modern artists such as Picasso. |
