“The Spaces In Between,” Kate Petley (Longmont, CO) has been exploring light, perception, aspects of landscape and urban culture for the past decade. She creates luminous resin panels that are made up of collaged elements from photography and film. Her abstract pieces are not purely paintings or photography, but a mix of traditions from both. Her work has always been tied to and influenced by the light and landscape around her. In her recent work from 2009, which will be featured in The Spaces in Between, Petley brings in more urban elements from her recent move to Longmont, CO outside of Denver. She incorporates graffiti markings, little snippets from nature, and whatever catches her eye on the edge of perception into her panels. Petley has exhibited across the country over the past ten years, specifically in New York, Houston, Denver, and Santa Fe. For more information on Petley, visit www.katepetley.com.
