Eric T. Kunsman- "Peripheral Visions"

February 1- March 9, 2008

Pe•riph•er•al Vi•sion  1. Side vision  2. the ability to see objects and movement outside the direct line of vision 3. peripheral vision is the work of the rods, nerve cells located largely outside the macula (the center) of the retina. The rods are also responsible for night vision and low-light vision but are insensitive to color. As opposed to central vision.

The sprawling, sublime landscapes and panoramas of the West have inspired artists and poets for hundreds of years. In traveling to Arizona and Utah, this contemporary artist follows in the hallowed tradition of Ansel Adams in photographing and documenting the grand spaces, land, and sky as well as the minute details that reside in these scenes.

Unlike Adams, Kunsman has presented a composite landscape that rests on the borders of perception and imagination, as he is combining up to a 360 degree panorama of nature into a composite image that looks factual and exact, but rests more in the realm of emotion, personal experience, and subtle play.
